Four people are dead and 42 injured after a charter bus carrying a junior college football team hit an overpass bridge on Highway 74 near Rockingham, N.C., Saturday afternoon, according to Charlotte TV station WBTV.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol officials, the front tire of the bus blew out and the bus swerved and hit a guard rail.

The bus was carrying members of the Ramah Juco Academy football team, as well as some players from Clinton College, a christian school from Rock Hill, S.C. The team was headed to Fayetteville, N.C. to play the University of God's Chosen Disciples from Raeford, N.C., according to UGC coach Demetrius Hollingsworth.

Lt. Jeff Gordon of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said 42 people were hurt in the wreck, with all of them being transported to four area hospitals. Their injuries range from critical to minor . According to Gordon, only one person on the bus was not injured.

Parents of some of the players, who were following the bus to the game, saw the crash and pulled over to help the injured.
